Why the Dakota is legendary in India
-
India’s first strategic airlift
The operation to reinforce Srinagar marked the beginning of India’s large-scale military airlift capability. Dakotas flew continuous sorties transporting soldiers, weapons, and supplies into the valley under extremely challenging conditions. -
The backbone of early Indian aviation
After independence, the Dakota quickly became the workhorse of the Indian Air Force. It transported troops, evacuated casualties, delivered supplies to remote regions, and supported operations across the country. -
A pilot’s aircraft
Aviators loved the Dakota for its forgiving handling and reliability. It could operate from rough airstrips and still bring crews home safely—qualities that earned it immense respect among those who flew it. -
A global aviation legend
Beyond India, the DC-3 transformed civil aviation worldwide. Introduced in the 1930s, it made commercial air travel practical and profitable for the first time. Even today, nearly a century later, some DC-3s are still flying—a testament to the aircraft’s remarkable design. -
From war to peace
After decades of service, Dakotas continued to appear in civilian aviation, cargo operations, and heritage flights. Their longevity turned them into living pieces of aviation history.

The Making
Each Glass Collection concept starts with procuring detailed blueprints of the design and then designing the cuts on Adobe Illustrator. These drawings are then passed on to the laser which then cuts fine lines on the glass. These are then hand engraved again to a shimmering finish with brilliant clarity.
The video shown here is of the hand engraving process which follows the laser cut.
