Why this piece stands out

The gun that changed the battlefield
When the M-46 entered Indian service, its range significantly exceeded that of many artillery systems of its era. Its ability to engage targets at long distances gave Indian commanders a powerful advantage and earned the gun immense respect among artillery units.
A cornerstone of Indian artillery
For decades, the M-46 served as one of the Indian Army's primary medium artillery guns. It became synonymous with the Regiment of Artillery and was deployed across India's varied terrain—from deserts and plains to mountainous regions.
The "God of War" in Indian service
Artillery is often called the "God of War," and the M-46 was one of its most trusted instruments. Its ability to deliver accurate fire support made it a key component of India's conventional military capability.
Modernised for the future
Rather than retire a proven performer, India upgraded many M-46 guns to 155mm calibre under enhancement programs. This significantly increased their range and effectiveness, extending the service life of a platform that had already proven its worth over decades.
A veteran of multiple eras
Few artillery systems have remained relevant through so many changes in military technology. The M-46 served through the Cold War, modernisation programs, and the transformation of India's artillery doctrine.
Trusted by generations of Gunners
Ask artillery veterans about the M-46 and you'll hear stories of reliability, ruggedness, and confidence. It wasn't glamorous—it simply delivered when called upon.
