The MiG-25—known by NATO as the Foxbat—was one of the most extraordinary machines ever to take to the skies. The MiG-25 Engraved Whiskey Glass pays tribute to an aircraft that operated at the edge of physics and secrecy, and whose quiet service with the Indian Air Force remains one of the least-known chapters of Indian aviation history.

Precision engraved in technical line art, this glass captures the MiG-25’s brutal geometry—massive intakes, slab-sided fuselage, and wings built for speed rather than grace.

Why the MiG-25 is legendary in India

  • An aircraft built for extremes
The MiG-25 was designed to fly higher and faster than almost anything else. With speeds exceeding Mach 2.8 and operational altitudes above 20 km, it wasn’t meant to dogfight—it was meant to see everything and escape anything.

  • India’s most secretive jet
The Indian Air Force inducted the MiG-25R reconnaissance variant in the early 1980s. Operating from bases such as Bareilly, the aircraft flew missions that were classified to the highest level. Even many IAF personnel were unaware of its exact role.

  • The subcontinent’s untouchable eye
During its service, the MiG-25 routinely flew deep reconnaissance missions at altitudes unreachable by interceptors of the time. Radar operators could see it—but could do little about it. Among aviation circles, it earned a reputation as the aircraft that could not be caught.

  • A single jet, strategic impact
India operated only a handful of MiG-25s, yet their presence alone acted as a strategic deterrent. Their ability to photograph vast areas in a single sortie gave India intelligence capability that few nations possessed at the time.

  • A pilot’s machine, not a showpiece
Flying the MiG-25 was physically demanding. Cockpits ran hot, fuel consumption was enormous, and airframe limits were unforgiving. Only the most experienced pilots were selected—men who understood that this aircraft was about discipline, not comfort.

  • A quiet retirement
By the mid-2000s, advances in satellite surveillance and unmanned systems made the MiG-25’s role less critical. It was retired quietly, without ceremony—fitting for an aircraft whose entire career had been conducted in silence.

The Making

Each Glass Collection concept starts with procuring detailed blueprints of the design and then designing the cuts on Adobe Illustrator. These drawings are then passed on to the laser which then cuts fine lines on the glass. These are then hand engraved again to a shimmering finish with brilliant clarity.

The video shown here is of the hand engraving process which follows the laser cut.
